My family recently went to a German Market downtown and came back bearing gifts, okay well one gift: Magenbrot.
To be honest, that was the only vegan thing they brought home and I was apprehensive to try it. I mean it is named stomach bread after all. It looked like a halved piece of rye bread with a sugary glaze on top.
No thank you!
... But as I bit into it, my tastebuds sang, "Hallelujah!". The next day I set out to make my own. The traditional Magenbrot is a soft, sweet glazed biscuit that is quite similar to a gingerbread cookie. The warm spices co-mingle perfectly with the citrus undertones. If you don't have time to go to a German Market, this will give you a similar taste!
The gingerbread spice listed in the recipe consists of:
1 T Ground Ginger
1 T Ground Cinnamon
½ T Ground Cloves
¼ t Nutmeg
You can use this as a base for the Gingerbread Spice or find another one online!
What you should know about this Vegan Magenbrot recipe:
It is 100% Vegan (aka there is zero dairy, egg, or any animal product in here)
Easy & quick. Time is so essential, so I wanted to make this easy vegan dessert as quick as possible. Seriously, you can make this in less than an hour.
